<text>Notes: Cyrus Running (1913-1976) was born in Veblen, South Dakota. Cyrus Running began teaching art at Concordia in 1940 where, for a number of years, he was the only faculty member in the department. Running had obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history and biology from St. Olaf College, studied at the Yale School of Fine Arts, and earned his Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa. Before arriving at Concordia, he taught high school music and history in Wisconsin and at the University of Omaha.

In addition to developing Concordia’s Art Department, carrying a full teaching load, and serving as the department chair, Running also directed area choirs and painted houses and signs. Running showed skillful devotion to any task put before him. He designed the Concordia Christmas Concert backgrounds for thirty years and his murals can be seen in various buildings on campus. In addition to being a highly talented artist, Running also possessed great musical ability and humor, which he combined in a parody titled “I Hate Music” that was performed for civic, college and church groups. In 1974, the campus art gallery was renamed the “Cyrus M. Running Art Gallery.” </text>

“This image of Martin Luther was created in the intaglio print medium and considers the figurative and formal elements of a portrait of Luther as Junker Jörg in 1521. This is my visual interpretation of Luther while he was in hiding at the Wartburg Castle. I worked a beard into this image and gave his renaissance hat subtle jester-like features to add to the idea of his disguise.” Diego Lasansky
The print is given in celebration of the 500th year anniversary of the Reformation.

Lasansky, Diego. Diego Lasansky: Paintings, Drawings, Prints. Cedar Rapids: Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, 2015. Print.
"Diego Lasansky, grandson of famed printmaker Mauricio Lasansky, is a painter and printmaker in his own right. While still a student at the University of Iowa (BFA 2016), his work has already garnered local, national, and international attention. Prior to his formal college education, Diego Lasansky learned about artistic processes not only from his grandfather, but also from his uncles, three of whom are professional artists. Growing up within this exceptional artistic milieu allowed the young Diego to learn the masterful techniques he employs. Lasansky’s work is figurative, and, like his grandfather, tends to focus on subjects readily available to him—such as family members—and those of historical and personal significance, such as Goya, Rembrandt, and Martin Luther. Early success came to Diego Lasansky in his series Portrait at Eighteen, a set of 50 intaglio self-portraits, each with distinct differences from the rest in the series."

From Karla Mickelson:
The Scent Catcher is one in a series of large woodland creatures. Duane always loved the setting of our home nestled in the woods on the shore of Lake 11. He enjoyed nature and would delight in seeing footprints in the soil or snow. Often, the prints were the only remaining 'remnants of the night." So one would wonder, what kind of creature was attached to those prints? As the creature wandered the woods, he tried to imagine what they looked like and what they would be doing. Lifting its head, the Scent Catcher has just caught a whiff of something on the edge of a breeze. There is both caution and curiosity as the creature tries to discern the scent.

Most of the wood was found on our property or on the old family wood lot near our home now owned by his brother, Dwight. There are a variety of wood pieces that make up the body and legs augmented by the steel armature. The head is one natural piece of found wood. </text>
