<text>Notes:Cyrus Running (1913-1976) was born in Veblen, South Dakota. Cyrus Running began teaching art at Concordia in 1940 where, for a number of years, he was the only faculty member in the department. Running had obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history and biology from St. Olaf College, studied at the Yale School of Fine Arts, and earned his Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa. Before arriving at Concordia, he taught high school music and history in Wisconsin and at the University of Omaha.

In addition to developing Concordia’s Art Department, carrying a full teaching load, and serving as the department chair, Running also directed area choirs and painted houses and signs. Running showed skillful devotion to any task put before him. He designed the Concordia Christmas Concert backgrounds for thirty years and his murals can be seen in various buildings on campus. In addition to being a highly talented artist, Running also possessed great musical ability and humor, which he combined in a parody titled “I Hate Music” that was performed for civic, college and church groups. In 1974, the campus art gallery was renamed the “Cyrus M. Running Art Gallery.” </text>

The horizon is a reddish-brown, with gray making up the distant ground. the ground closer almost looks like the wake of a boat or as though it had been tilled by a wide plow in only one place. Most likely, it is crude road. A yellow-y mailbox sits to the left of the road, with its little, red flag barely peeking up over the other side of it. The mailbox leans toward the road. Trees grow on the other side; they are skinny and bare and do not quite reach halfway up the painting. Because of the color and the ground, it looks as if the whole thing were underwater, but the trees and mailbox say otherwise.</text>

The word Greenland in Greenlandic is written along the bottom left inside of the circle, following its curve. A small team of people ski underneath this picture. A tent is behind them, towards the right side of the circle. There is writing scrawled under the tent. <text>Notes: David Hetland was born in 1947 in Fargo, North Dakota. He studied under Cyrus M. Running while he was a student at Concordia College before graduating in 1969. In 1965, he took over design and creation of the Concordia College Christmas Concert murals and completely took over the role of designer in 1975. Some of Hetland's works are internationally known such as the Jerusalem Cross that was commissioned by the ELCA and presented to Pope John Paul II. Another of his mosaics hangs in the entrance of the ELCA's churchwide offices in Chicago. At Concordia, he designed the president's medallion in 1980 and is also known for a mosaic mural in the library. David Hetland died on April 16th, 2006</text>
