<text>Notes: Native American artist Anna Johnson seeks to bridge the gap between the world she lives in and the culture she came from. Originally from Bismarck, she is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and has lived most of her life in North Dakota. She received her BFA in printmaking and drawing from NDSU and has been creating art in Fargo- and across the state- ever since.
Anna is driven to create art that expresses themes such as social injustice, religion and spirituality, and issues that Native Americans, women, LGBTQ+ and people everywhere face.
Anna seeks opportunities to connect with her community through participating in artist in residency programs, teaching printmaking classes, being a vendor at the annual Native American arts and crafts festival at the Plains Art Museum and by contributing to public art projects such as the Greetings from Fargo mural downtown. She worked with Native American school children to create locker murals at their schools and painted The Moon Also Rises mural on the side of Bernie’s Liquor in Fargo. Several other pieces of her work are featured downtown on utility boxes.
Anna serves on the City of Fargo’s Arts & Culture Commission, is the Executive Director of the non-profit group The Human Family, is on the board of The Arts Partnership and recently joined the board of Stonewall Sports, a LGBTQ+ sports group. She is also a tandem truck driver at Aggregate Industries.

The variations are a slightly greener, slightly lighter hue, and mostly at the bottom, at the horizon, looking like a cloud. The horizon is a reddish-brown, with gray making up the distant ground. the ground closer almost looks like the wake of a boat or as though it had been tilled by a wide plow in only one place. Most likely, it is crude road. A yellow-y mailbox sits to the left of the road, with its little, red flag barely peeking up over the other side of it. The mailbox leans toward the road. Trees grow on the other side; they are skinny and bare and do not quite reach halfway up the painting. Because of the color and the ground, it looks as if the whole thing were underwater, but the trees and mailbox say otherwise.</text>
