<text>Notes: Growing up in the Midwest afforded Erik much of the psychological and visual imagery for his art. His artistic images have also been fueled by his fascination with mythology. The images that have evolved have the feel of painted dreams. They speak of transitions, leaving one place for another and then returning to the same familiar place. Whether the images are troubled, turbulent, calm, tender or playful, his work creates a sense of the sublime. He provides an experience of being a part of something much greater than ourselves. To that end, animals, windows, houses, water, boats, chairs and nature comprise a major part of his imagery.
Over his artistic career, Erik has created art using a wide variety of media, including pottery, drawings, lithography, sculpture, carving, and painting. Erik incorporates the scraping and burnishing techniques of printmaking with his painting to produce highly textured layers of thick and thin paint.
