<text>Notes: Growing up in the Midwest afforded Erik much of the psychological and visual imagery for his art. His artistic images have also been fueled by his fascination with mythology. The images that have evolved have the feel of painted dreams. They speak of transitions, leaving one place for another and then returning to the same familiar place. Whether the images are troubled, turbulent, calm, tender or playful, his work creates a sense of the sublime. He provides an experience of being a part of something much greater than ourselves. To that end, animals, windows, houses, water, boats, chairs and nature comprise a major part of his imagery.
Over his artistic career, Erik has created art using a wide variety of media, including pottery, drawings, lithography, sculpture, carving, and painting. Erik incorporates the scraping and burnishing techniques of printmaking with his painting to produce highly textured layers of thick and thin paint.
Erik’s paintings and sculptures are included in major collections of corporations, universities and museums as well as numerous private collections. His art has been successfully entered in national and international competitions since 1979. Erik has exhibited his work in Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Sante Fe, Scottsdale, St Louis, Chicago, Atlanta; Minneapolis, Duluth, Bemidji, St Cloud and Moorhead Minnesota; Bismarck, Grand Forks and Fargo North Dakota; Sioux City, Iowa; Manhattan, Kansas; Findlay, Ohio; and Irving, Texas. Erik graduated from Osage High School in 1968 and Concordia College, Moorhead Minnesota in 1972. He also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of North Dakota in 1984, with a major in Painting and a minor in Printmaking. He spent 21 years in a teaching career that encompassed a variety of teaching experiences and subjects from sixth grade social studies at the Erskine Minnesota School District to college lithography classes at Bemidji State University before moving to Scottsdale, Arizona to become a full time artist in 1994.
Erik currently is living in Osage, Iowa.</text>

He also earned an M.A. and an M.F.A in painting from the University of Iowa in 1967 and 1969. Much of his work his inspired by his life growing up in the Red River Valley and Breckenridge, or landscapes in Spain. Many of his works depict landscapes, figures or still lifes. While many of his works are representational, he also focuses heavily on abstraction and symbolism. He chaired the Art Department at the State University of New York - Plattsburgh for 10 years. Currently he works as a professor of drawing and painting at that school.</text>

Jarle Rosseland was born in Bergen in 1952. His debut into the art world happened in 1970 at the Norwegian National Annual Autumn Exhibition when he was 18 years old. Since then he has become one of Norway's most prominent artists. He is most known for his style which consists of crisp lines, fluid movement, and interesting contours all of which are coupled with bizarre colors. He has stated that his inspiration and style are based in traditional Norwegian landscape and folk art. He has over 300 exhibitions all over the world, 32 of which are in national museums.</text>
