The art object is an oil painting depicting the life of John the Baptist. The quality the colors have make them look as though they were once bright but have faded. At the bottom of the painting there is plant life. Above that is a river, where John the Baptist baptizes a bald person. Behind them is a town; here the sky is dark. Two trees grow tall. The predominant figure in the painting is either John the Baptist or Jesus the Christ, who stands half in shadow under the bigger tree, and half in light. His left hand is outstretched, arm in the air, in the light. Above his palm is a cross hanging in the sky. To his left the viewers right people stand, but they are rather indistinct and there are stripes of color, creating fan-like shapes.
