Soli Deo Gloria

Dublin Core

Subject

This mosaic uses reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, browns, pinks, white, grays, and black on its tiles. These tiles form the images of a tree, a ladder, a sun, a cross with an altar with a cloth over it in front of it, waves, and land. Concordia College's Latin motto, Soli Deo Gloria, is at the bottom.

Description

The sun, which is yellow and marigold, has the star of David in reds and orange centered in it. A ladder in colors similar to the star leads up to the bottom of the sun. The sky behind it, on the left half of the piece, gradates from white at the top to yellow and oranges at the bottom. At the bottom, the sky meets a green hill. Water flows in front of the ground, grayer towards the left where the ladder begins and bluer towards the right, where fish, one mostly blue, and three yellow with orange, swim. In front of the water ""Soli Deo Gloria," is written in red caps in a bar of black. Right above the fish, standing on the edge of the hill in front of yellow, orange and red tiles, is a brown altar with a mostly white cloth drapped over it. Behind that, is a cross. The cross itself is red but with a circle of gold around it. Behind the cross is a tree. This tree is half onto the yellow sky, and half onto blue tiles on the right. These blue tiles are done in vertical rows of varying shades of blue. They touch the little patch of yellow and orange ground, instead of connecting to the water. The Tree is full of leaves that together make a circular shape. The leaves in the yellow sky bear fruit that varies in yellows and oranges.
