Description

The sculpture is a wood, leather, and welded steel form of a woodland creature that can be viewed in the round. There is emphasis placed upon enhacing the natural beauty of the wood and the upward posture of the form.

From Karla Mickelson:
The Scent Catcher is one in a series of large woodland creatures. Duane always loved the setting of our home nestled in the woods on the shore of Lake 11. He enjoyed nature and would delight in seeing footprints in the soil or snow. Often, the prints were the only remaining 'remnants of the night." So one would wonder, what kind of creature was attached to those prints? As the creature wandered the woods, he tried to imagine what they looked like and what they would be doing. Lifting its head, the Scent Catcher has just caught a whiff of something on the edge of a breeze. There is both caution and curiosity as the creature tries to discern the scent.

Most of the wood was found on our property or on the old family wood lot near our home now owned by his brother, Dwight. There are a variety of wood pieces that make up the body and legs augmented by the steel armature. The head is one natural piece of found wood.
