Description

The art object is a stained glass window. It depicts a white dove taking flight from an individual's outstretched hands. At the top of the arch, are hues of red, orange, and yellow that frame the ciricular shape of the window. Adding depth to the colors, are hues of purple in curvy pieces of glass that are intermixed with circular bulbs of orange. Below that, are hues of blue that curve around a cross and frame the head of the white dove. Surroing the dove, with its wings fully deployed, are colors of cobalt, plum, lavendar, and light blue. There is a set of outstretched hands in hues of brown. Below the right hand, are waves of blue and below the left hand, are rolling plains in hues of green.

Another of his mosaics hangs in the entrance of the ELCA's churchwide offices in Chicago. At Concordia, he designed the president's medallion in 1980 and is also known for a mosaic mural in the library. David Hetland died on April 16th, 2006.
