Sent Forth by David Hetland

As a student, Hetland was inspired by Cy Running and Dean Bowman, with Running acting as his mentor.[13] Because of their influence, Hetland specialized in Liturgical art thereafter.

David Hetland’s work can be found all across the world, with many pieces spread across the Midwest; countless of his designs can be found in churches across North Dakota and Minnesota.[14] He also designed a mosaic for the headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago.[15]

One of his most far-reaching pieces was multitudinous: He created three mosaics that were presented to Pope John Paul II in Rome, the Archbishop of Canterbury in London, and the patriarch of the Orthodox Church in Istanbul on behalf of the ECLA.[16]
